The "IJstijdenmuseum" (Ice Age Museum) is located in Buitenpost a small town in the province of Friesland. This small museum is accommodated on the grounds of the Botanical Garden called "Kruithof", which is situated within walking distance of the railwaystation. The museum was created and is managed by a group of enthusiastic volunteers.

The museum aims to show us something about the ice age, which from 250,000 years ago determined the landscape in the Netherlands. It is shown how with a thick ice glaciers in the Ice Age, pieces of rock and sand were transported to the Netherlands. About 130,000 years ago, when the great glaciers melted and left a thick layer of clay behind, together with many rocks and boulders.

The exhibition at the museum contains a number of private collections of boulders found in the Netherlands, but also the minerals, crystals and fossils present in rocks are on display. More details can be found on the Museums Website.
