The W.M. Keck Museum exhibits an impresive collection of ores and minerals from all over the world. The Keck has a collection of over 80,000 mineral and ore specimens. 15,000 objects are on view for the general public. Other specimens are in storage and available for viewing upon request.
The W. M. Keck Museum is a living legacy of the Comstock Lode and Nevada's early mining boom. The Museum still uses oak cases from 1908. Beyond the historical nature of the museum itself the Keck exhibits the history of the Mackay School, and the University at large. The Keck Museum is currently redesiging its exhibit on the Comstock Lode. This new exhibit will open early 2017.
