Our philosophy

( Our philosophy in dutch...)

Robin translated the Dutch text to english (thanks Robin!) ; any comments are very welcome!

We want to enjoy our nice hobby together, preferably in the sun ;-)
And after collecting we like to have some good food and drinks.
Loners therefore do not fit with us...

We are prepared to give up the best piece of the day and hand it over to the person we had a nice day with.
It is better to give than to take.
When collecting in a group, all finds will be put together and divided as agreed on before ('fair').
That way everyone had some 'luck' and had a nice day.
Greedy people therefore do not fit with us...

We like swapping and giving more than selling.
When money starts to play a role among friends, problems usually arise.
Dealers plundering localities for sales therefore do not fit with us...

Information about localities is shared with everyone supporting our philosophy.
We do not have any secrets for each other. Secrets do not fit with honesty, sincerity and for sure not with friendship.
Everyone has the right to also enjoy the locality you enjoyed. We don't want to deny others that right.
People who only take information and do not contribute therefore do not fit with us...

Consequently we exclaim "enough is enough". You do not take home 100 pieces of the same material, no, 10 is plenty for your own collection and the other 90 you can give to friends. Plundering localities is selfish, bad for the reputation of well intending collectors, and bad for nature.
We like collecting together. If we find something it is even better. But possessing minerals is usually the end of the fun for us. "Het bezit van de saeck is het einde van het vermaeck". And Goethe said nicely "in der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister".
People who collect just in order to get a big collection as possible (in the cellar) therefore do not fit with us...

Safety is a common responsibility, not an individual responsibility.
Someone who acts unresponsible may have to be saved by someone else risking his life in the rescue. That saviour perhaps also has a wife and children at home. Furthermore, quarry-proprietors can get into (juristic and actuarial) problems due to unresponsible behaviour by some collectors.
People that behave unresponsibly and only think about themselves therefore do not fit with us...

We are crazy about nature. Therefore we fancy hiking in the mountains and forests. And therefore we show some respect to the natural habitat we are residing in.
We fill up dug holes, we take care that flowers, plants and trees do not get damaged, and do not leave trash.
Nature already has enough to endure... The only thing we leave behind are our footprints.
Demolishers of nature therefore clearly do not fit with us...

If it is necessary to ask for permission to collect minerals somewhere, we do that.
When a quarry-proprietor asks for a waiver of liability, we decently comply.

Quarry-proprietors are our partners. Without them we can not practise our hobby!

We are, as you can see on this site, very active collectors, and we are very happy with the methods we practise (and with our finds ;-)
We have no problems in getting permission for most quarries, in particular because we employ and spread this philosophy.

If you can identify yourself in our philosophy, and behave accordingly,
you are welcome to share in the information we as a group collect,
and we would love to meet you on one of our excursions and on our forum :-)

See you soon !

There are no strangers here...
only friends we haven't met yet !!
