Hi,

here will follow some pictures from my findings from last summer from Steli-mine in Iveland, Southern Norway. Pictures of the locality itself will appear on the Strahlen-locality pages as soon as Frank has uploaded the two other descriptions still waiting in his mailbox  wink

The Steli pegmatite mine is famous for the occurrence of Monazite and Almandine-Garnet. First a picture of one of my bigger Monazite specimen, the crystal has a size of 17x11x5mm!

Another one of those big Monazites: 22x18x8mm

Most of these crystal were sitting quite loose between the Mica and Quartz of the Pegmatite. When splitting up the stuff several single crystals of Monazite and Almandine were falling into my hands  cool

Hi,

here is a picture of the sign at the entrance to Steli-mine. I know the quality is bad, I cut it out of a larger picture, but I see there a much longer mineral list than on mindat -> work for someone with an appropriate account on mindat wink

I read there: Allanite-(Ce), Almandine, Bertrandite, Beryl, Biotite, Bismuthinite, Euxenite-(Y), Ferrocolumbite, Ilmenorutile, Chlorite, Quartz, Mikrocline, Molybdenite, Monazite-(Ce), Muscovite, Plagioclase, Polycrase-(Y), Pyrite, Samarskite-(Y), Xenotime-(Y), Zircone

have fun

Hi all,

one more mineral picture: this should be a damaged group of Ferrocolumbit-xx. The streak, hardness and the iridescent effect on some broken surfaces lead me to this conclusion.

Hi there Günther,

Beautiful Almandines & Garnets you got there. So you had to pay by the kilo there. I read the signs and managed to figure out you had to pay 100 Kronen to get in and you were allowed to bring out no more then 3kg if I'm right.

Grüße und Fröhliche Weihnachten,

Bert
