Hi,

here is a picture of one of the Rutile-crystals I found on the day I went to Gorb with Edward. It's quite small but I think it shows twinning.

Günter

Hello Günter,

Did you find it here?

Another picture of a very good day (see: http://www.strahlen.org/smf/index.php/topic,2157.msg29669.html#msg29669 !) at Gorb in 2008:

Yellow Anatase (or Xenotime ???) - Gorb, Binntal, Switzerland

Image width 4 mm.

Hi Edward
can you please post a picture here where I can better see the symmetry of the crystal?
because I have doubts too about your determination ;)
(perhaps one pic from the side in more detail (bigger crop) and one from above
:)F

Hi,

@Tim: it was raining a bit now and then that day and it was quite dry under this rock...

@Edward: for me it looks like the pyramid has the same orientation as the prism, so this should be Xenotime.

Hallo Frank,

a) anataas?
b) geel geoxideerde kwarts? (meerdere individuen)
c) xenotiem?

Hi,

if the base of the prism has a rectangular cross-section, I would still say that this is Xenotime, probably intergrown crystals (notch on the left top). According to my books long prismatic Anatase has prism and pyramid in different order (45° turned).

In some Quartz from Gorb, Binntal (found 22-07-2009) I saw this:

I think those yellow flakes are Pyrite ... or is it something else?

Picture 1: Image width 5 mm.
Picture 2: Image width 4 mm.

Hi Edward,

Are they really yellow?
The shape reminds me more of Hematite or Ilmenite inclusions (maybe the yellow spots are iridescent parts?)

Cheers

Hallo Harjo ,

De 'schilfers' zijn een beetje doffig geel.

Does anyone have GPS coordinates or a good description of the block field at Gorb where most of the finds discussed here were made? I may want to go there during my August stay in the Binntal.

Thanks,

Björn
