At the area of Martelange there are lot of old slate mines on Belgian but also on Luxembourgian terrain. But in Belgium much more than in Luxembourg. Today you see some dumps and at the mine in Martelange-Rombach the old mining building incl. the shaft. Unfortinately the buildings are getting dilapidate. On the old slate dumps you can find with some luck Barytes, Marcasites, Pyrites, Dolomites and with more luck nice Spahlerites and Galenites, but all are micros.

I visited the dumps on the 4th of june 2006 and had luck. There was an around 20 x 20 cm large piece with very small gaps with small, but very nice red-brown Spahlerit xls in it. Pictures of those Sphalerites are on our forum!
