The ENCI cement quarry digs into the Sint Pietersberg (Saint Pieters mountain). In doing so it digs away the former mines inside the Pietersberg... And in doing that it digs away an archeological site in which paintings can be found, made with charcoal, from sometimes even the 15th century!
On the other hand, the quarry might be the most wellknown and famous in the Netherlands for finding fossiles. We do not know of any minerals found here. But... there's always a but ;-) (there are minerals found inside cavities in flint...). And it's one of only a handful quarries in the Netherlands... so worth mentioning.
You can visit the quarry: see geo.uu.nl/ngv.
