The October 9, 2013 meeting of the New York Mineralogical Club will include a first for our group, perhaps a first for ANY American mineral club!

The lecture by Michael Silver (CEO, American Elements) – How Minerals Will Impact Global Geopolitics in the 21st Century – will be an internationally streamed live webcast!

American Elements (AE) has arranged to have the following seven important societies announce the webcast to their members in their newsletters and by email blast, social network sharing and blogging: the Materials Research Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the National Mining Association, the Optical Society of America, the National Association of Scientific Materials Managers, the American Ceramic Society and the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS).

AE calculates that the total membership of these seven organizations exceeds 60,000, so the viewing audience should be significant.

AE has also asked these seven organizations to notify their members that if they are in the NYC area, they should stop in to hear the lecture in person. AE has also contacted dozens of other organizations globally to make the webcast available to their members as well.

The lecture will be streaming live beginning at 7:00 p.m. at:
If you cannot make the meeting, you can view the lecture from your computer or mobile device at the above webpage.

(Note: Our regular meeting will be held  BEFORE the lecture, from 6:30-6:55, but will NOT be part of the live broadcast.)

Very exciting, right?
