The gallery where the museum was built was originally a magazine for the storage of explosives and detonating material used in the rock-cutting operation in the Gavorrano mine. Its location, although at a safe distance from the mining buildings, is near haulage gallery of Pozzo Impero from where the explosive material was transported on special carts inside the mine. The tour starts at the Reception Centre, where there are samples of mineral in cases placed in the four corners of the hall. In the conical environment that leads to the actual gallery is placed a layout of the mining area located in the middle. The museum itinerary introduces the visitor into the life of the mine, through images and sounds that come from the past and from the memory of the mining world. After the reconstruction of the changing rooms and the lamproom, we continue with the descent into the mine which is represented by a cage (elevator) similar to that of Pozzo Impero. The different phases of the mining site are described by sections dedicated to research activities, the laying of explosives, cultivation methods and support works. At the end of the visit there will be a projection that retraces the main stages of the history of the mine and the future ones, which prelude to a new development scenario for the territory of the former Gavorrano mine.
