Monchegorsk Museum of Colored Stone is a municipal cultural institution. It was created on the initiative of mining engineer-geologist Vladimir Nikolaevich Dava in 1971. In 2007, after reconstruction, the museum was located on the main street of the city in a new building with an area of 540 square meters. Currently, expositions and collections have more than 3,000 exhibits. Having visited the museum, you will get a consistent and complete picture of the colored stone, you will be amazed by the brightness of the stone palette, and the variety of mineral aggregates will surprise you. The expositions present minerals that are magnificent in their beauty and natural perfection, as well as samples of the most valuable ores and decorative rocks. The exposition “Colored stones of Russia and the countries of the world” will introduce you to the minerals and rocks used in jewelry and arts and crafts. In addition to samples, numerous colored stone products are also presented here. The exposition "Classical collection" is compiled according to the taxonomy adopted in mineralogy. More than 2000 samples from various regions of the planet represent all classes of minerals. The exhibition is based on the collection of Ivan Ilyich Chupilin, a doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, which was acquired at the expense of the city residents in 1972. The exposition of the Museum "Facets of Personality" introduces the biography of the founder of the museum, geologist VN Dava, the history of the museum and the club of stone lovers. In a separate room, original products from colored stones and rare samples of minerals and rocks of private collectors are presented. The museum is engaged in the storage, study, popularization of natural heritage. It has exhibition and conference rooms.
