Saturday was the second Seattle Mineral Market. I was not able to attend last year as it was scheduled during my vacation to Canada. I found it to be a very pleasant experience. It was held in the Lake City community center, just north of Seattle. I found many friends there and the majority of the dealers were there to sell minerals. They ranged from local field collectors to collectors selling off extra specimens, to professional dealers like Rob Lavinsky. Alfredo Petrov was there and I obtained a cylindrite specimen from him that had been collected when he and Frank were in Bolivia earlier this year. There is an emphasis on providing material for young collectors. Dealers may participate in the mineral bucks program. The kids get mineral bucks to spend at dealers who have set aside specimens for the kids. It was not unusual to see specimens given for free. Some of the folks in attendance that I knew were Bob Meyer, Saul Krotki, Rudy Tschernich, Don and Karl Volkman, Rob Woodside, Ray Hill, John Cornish, John Lindell, Ty Balacko, Art Soregaroli, and John Sobelewski. This event was the idea of Bart Cannon. Saul Krotki and Bob Meyer contributed wonderful photos to decorate the walls. It made for a great day spent with fellow strahlers here in the Pacific Northwest and is an event I will attend in the future.
