AMI – Italian Micromineralogical Association is pleased to announce the release of the monograph “RAME NATIVO. Mineralogical treasures of Tuscany”, by Cristian Biagioni, Daniela Mauro and Massimo Batoni (80 pages).
The volume summarizes the current knowledge on the presence of native copper in Tuscany, with a brief introduction on the geochemistry and crystal chemistry of copper, aimed at suggesting where and why samples of native copper are found in this region.
Twelve different locations are presented which offer reasons of scientific and collecting interest, on a journey in which the reader is accompanied by images, often masterfully shot by Roberto Appiani, which portray specimens belonging both to the collections of the Mineralogical Museums of Pisa and Florence and to various private collections. In closing, a reasoned list of those localities in which the presence of samples of native copper has been identified to date. The monograph, the result of collaboration between scientific institutions and amateurs, was born from the synergy as co-editors between the two main national associations: AMI (Italian Micromineralogical Association) and GML - AIM (Lombardy Mineralogical Group - Italian Association of Mineralogy). The monograph will be presented to the public on Saturday 22 April in Florence, in the Sala Strozzi, via La Pira 4, at the inauguration of the exhibition "Flowers of the Earth - Colors and geometries in minerals" as part of the fourth edition of the Florence Mineral Show. On this occasion, the volume will be on sale at 15 euros per copy instead of 18 euros.
