In the formula is X < 1/3 (probably < 1/7), and n < 1-x. Jamborite was originally described as containing sulfide and as a possible member of the hydrotalcite group, but a recent study showed that sulfate is present. The structure contains brucite-like hydroxide layers, but sulfate oxygen probably replaces a part of the OH from the brucite layer. Jamborite is related to the hydrotalcite supergroup, but also to minerals like mooreite and others.
